The Cherry Laurel tree (Prunus laurocerasus)
The cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) is a strong, evergreen shrub native to Southeastern Europe and Western Asia. Thanks to its dense foliage and vibrant dark-green color, it has long been a popular choice for hedges and as an espalier tree, but it also makes an attractive feature when used as a multi-stemmed specimen.
The cherry laurel stands out with its glossy, leathery leaves and its vigorous, compact growth. In spring, it produces creamy white flower clusters that give off a subtle fragrance, attracting bees and other pollinators. After flowering, small dark-purple berries appear, adding extra ornamental value in autumn.
Prunus laurocerasus thrives best in a sunny or partially shaded location and grows well in almost any type of soil, as long as it is not too wet. It is hardy and easy to maintain – a yearly pruning is enough to keep it in shape.
In short: a versatile and robust shrub that provides a lush, green touch to the garden all year round.
