The Grapevine tree (Vitis vinifera)
The grapevine is native to the Middle East. The Vitis vinifera can tolerate very cold temperatures, down to around -20°C, and therefore does not need protection during harsh winter periods.
The grapevines from the Olive Tree Specialist are former production vines aged between 20 and 40 years. Due to their age, these vines have a very beautiful and irregular structure.
When the grapevine is properly cared for and pruned, it is no problem to harvest ripe grapes.
The grapevine prefers clay-like, lime-rich soil. In the spring (March - April), it is best to fertilize the grapevine. When planting Vitis vinifera, it is best to do so against a south-facing wall, where the grapevine will thrive.
A grapevine tree should be pruned directly after the leaves have fallen, usually after the first light to moderate frost. White varieties should be pruned back to 4-5 buds, while blue varieties should be pruned back to 2-3 buds from the main branches.
In short: with the right care and the correct location with sufficient light and warmth, you can harvest your own Mediterranean grapes.
