The Oleander (Nerium oleander)
The oleander (Nerium oleander) is a graceful, evergreen shrub that originates from the Mediterranean region. In southern gardens, it has been cherished for centuries for its abundant blooms and unmistakable Mediterranean charm. And it performs surprisingly well in our climate too when it is properly cared for.
The oleander is especially loved for its profuse and long-lasting flowering. The blossoms, which appear from May to September, can be pink, white, or red and grow in dense clusters at the tips of the branches. They release a subtle, sweet fragrance that attracts bees and butterflies.
Nerium oleander thrives best in a sunny, sheltered spot, ideally in a spacious pot or container so it can be moved to a frost-free place during the winter. In summer, it requires regular watering, but overall, its care is relatively simple.
In short: a plant that, with its prolonged and abundant bloom, adds a touch of southern charm to any terrace or balcony.
