The Chinese Fan Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei)
The Chinese Fan Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) is the most widely sold palm species and for good reason. Thanks to its strong, fibrous trunk, this palm is highly cold hardy and can tolerate temperatures as low as -18°C.
Depending on its location, Trachycarpus fortunei grows on average 8 to 10 cm per year. It features long leaf stems and large fan shaped leaves that form a full crown with a width of over one metre.
In terms of disease and fungal resistance, the Chinese Fan Palm is one of the toughest palms available, making it particularly well suited to cooler European climates.
All Chinese Fan Palms in the OlijfboomSpecialist range are field grown and cultivated in a continental climate. This is an important quality distinction compared to many garden centre palms, which are often grown rapidly in greenhouses with high temperatures and humidity. Such palms are generally less suitable for outdoor planting in our climate.
In summary, an exceptionally strong and low maintenance palm with elegant fan shaped leaves, ideal for gardens, terraces and patios.
