The Stone Pine (Pinus pinea) is a winter-hardy conifer native to the Mediterranean region. The Pinus pinea is highly resistant to wind, so it does not need to be planted in a sheltered location.

 

The Pinus pinea has an umbrella-shaped crown with spreading branches. As the tree matures, these branches form the "spokes" of the beautiful umbrella shape. The color of the tree bark ranges from reddish-brown to orange.

 

The needles of the Pinus pinea are gray-green, sharp-tipped, arranged in pairs, and grow to 12-20 cm in length.
