Buy a Winter-Hardy Palm Tree (Trachycarpus fortunei)?
At the Olive Tree Specialist, you have come to the right place for high-quality winter-hardy palm trees (Trachycarpus fortunei).
The Olive Tree Specialist imports palm trees from Spain because Northern Spanish, field grown palm trees of the Trachycarpus fortunei variety are the most winter-hardy and disease-resistant.
All Trachycarpus fortunei palms in the Olive Tree Specialist’s assortment are field grown in a continental climate. Do not confuse our quality with garden center quality! Those palms are often rapidly grown in greenhouses with high temperatures and humidity, making them unsuitable for our climate.
The Trachycarpus fortunei palm grows an average of 8-10cm in height per year, and the crown can become more than one meter wide.
The Olive Tree Specialist has a very large stock, so you will not be short of choices.
Check out the overview below for the highest quality palm trees at a fixed low price. All trees are arranged by trunk height, which is related to the age of the tree.
We can ship to any country within the EU.

Plant care instructions for the Palm tree
Trachycarpus fortunei
Watermanagement: When the palm tree is planted with clay pebbels and Mediterranean substrate, it needs to be watered heavily once a week during the growing season (February to October)! In summer, this can be extended to twice a week during dry and hot weather.
In autumn, watering depends on weather conditions. If it rains a lot, the palm tree does not need additional water. If it remains dry for an extended period, you can water the palm a few more times in autumn. It's difficult to determine the exact amount of water needed because olive trees may be in various conditions and come in various sizes. It's recommended to regularly check the soil moisture by removing a few centimeters of Mediterranean substrate along the root ball. If the soil is too dry, increase watering. When the soil is too dry, increase watering. In winter, you should keep the soil moist if it hasn't rained for an extended period and there is no frost. It's also important to water after a long period of frost when there's no chance of another frost period because frost dries out the soil. Also, keep in mind that if the palm tree is planted in a planter, it will require more water than if it were in the ground.
Fertilizing: The special Mediterranean soil from the Olive Tree Specialist contains sufficient nutrients for approximately 7 months (1 growing season). In the following years, you can feed the palm tree with special Osmocote for Mediterranean trees. These fertilizer pellets are available from the Olive Tree Specialist. For dosage instructions, please refer to the packaging.
Pruning: Pruning a palm tree is very simple. You only need to cut off the palm leaves at the bottom of the crown when they turn brown.
Repotting: If your palmt tree is in a pot or planter, it will need to be repotted after a period of 8 to 10 years. You can use the same pot or planter. Remove the palm tree from the pot, then trim about 10 cm from the root ball and replant the palm tree with clay pebbles and Mediterranean substrate.
